Abstract

During the third trimester, especially peripartum period, the platelet counts in normal pregnant women may fall below the accepted range.
Such thrombocytopenia, in most instance, rise to normal levels within one week of delivery.
Thrombocytopenia may be important clinically regarding the choice of regional anesthetic. Cesarean section under epidural anesthesia is successfully performed f the platelet count exceeds 100 X 109 /L in otherwise healthy women.
In order to evaluate the effect of epidural anesthesia on platelet count in periparturn, we had been performed platelet counts at 24 hours before & after delivery in vaginal delivery & cesarean section under general anesthesia, Cesarean section under epidural anesthesia.
